Are You Afraid of Color?

Are You Afraid of Color?

I’ve recently been chatting with lots of ladies who claim to be “afraid of color” in their wardrobe. These darlings tend to stick to grays, blacks, and browns because they’re confident they can’t go wrong with a color that “goes with everything”. Many of these ladies have expressed a desire to introduce color into their wardrobe but are not sure where to begin. With summer on the horizon and lots of fabulous colors trending right now, I figured it’s the perfect time to ask women everywhere: are you afraid of color? If so, read on for 5 tips on how to punch up your wardrobe palette!

Tip #1

Find flattering colors. Just because a color is on trend for the season doesn’t mean you have to wear it. If a color doesn’t complement your skin tone, wear a different one! You’ll feel much more confident wearing color when you know it looks fabulous on you. Determine which colors look best on you and stick with those. Unsure which are best? Ask a friend with a good eye for style and color.

Tip #2

Start small. Go for big impact in a small package by introducing gems of color into your otherwise neutral wardrobe. Buy a bright pair of heels to jazz up a little black dress. Spend 20 bucks on a pair of colorful sunglasses! Accessorize with a pastel handbag, or a bold-colored necklace in a small scale and wear these pieces with your basic pencil skirts or sundresses, or even jeans to brighten up your whole look. Or you can buy a brightly colored Bagnet to add a little pizazz to your purse! The point is to keep introducing small pieces of color and gradually become more comfortable with larger scaled pieces.

Tip #3

Use color on your lips & nails! Is accessorizing with color still too much of a leap? Try a new lipstick or eyeshadow in a new-to-you-hue. Nail polish is a great, temporary way to experiment with color. Have a job where bright nails aren’t appropriate? Put it on your toes!

Tip #4

Keep your color private. If you really want to baby step your way into this whole color thing then why not treat yourself to a colorful bra and panty set? You’ll have a chance to get used to seeing yourself in color and no one else will be the wiser!

Tip #5

Take your cues from nature. There’s not much in nature that’s neutral. Plants, flowers, animals, rivers, mountains, and deserts - vibrant and saturated colors abound. Start paying attention to the color combinations that resonate with you and introduce those combinations into your wardrobe. My personal favorite is the pink and green from a watermelon - bright, beautiful and fun!
