Step-by-Step Guide
- Choose the right pot: Select a pot that is 1-2 inches larger in diameter than the current pot, with adequate drainage holes to prevent water build-up.
- Prepare the soil: The ideal type of soil varies for each plant, but a good general ratio to stick with is 3 parts of the indoor potting mixture, to one part perlite, and one part orchid bark.
- Fill the new pot with your soil mixture about half way.
- Remove the plant from its current pot, being carful not to damage the roots. Gently turn the pot to its side and work the plant out by it's base, loosening the soil on either side. This step is easiest when the soil is dry between waterings.
- Place the plant in the new pot and fill in the remaining space with potting soil, pressing it down to remove any air pockets. All the roots should be covered with at least 2 inches of soil.
- Water the plant thoroughly. Water until the soil is saturated and allow any excess water to drain away.
With a little bit of care and attention, your plants will be thriving in their new homes in no time! Happy repotting!
